A curated and annotated international corpus of feature films in which artificial intelligence is a primary plot driver. Each entry is annotated for the kind of future the film depicts — eight categories running from dystopia through continuation and protopia to utopia — and for how the film portrays the AI itself. It was built to test a widely repeated assumption: that AI in cinema is overwhelmingly a story about dystopia. On this evidence it isn't. Dystopia only accounts for 32% of the corpus, and even shows a downward trend — from half of the earliest films to about a quarter of those made since 2020.
